Welcome to the official website of Strete in Devon, England, which is managed by Strete Parish Council. Strete is about a fifteen minute drive from Dartmouth. It is to be found on the high coastal ground at the eastern end of Slapton Sands. It's a good place to stay if you like exploring the local beaches and is also convenient for Kingsbridge, Totnes and Salcombe. Strete is situated on the South West Coastal Footpath and, with a variety of accommodation in the village, it is an ideal location to take a break in your journey. Take time to relax and enjoy the beautiful AONB surroundings.
With the Formula 1 season getting up to speed and a new series of Top Gear about to start, Strete Village appears to have had an infestation of madness in its lanes and roads including Start Bay Park. Look out for that Dragster!!
The highway authority is being required to make 20mph limits enforceable.
Apparently, the arrival of 20mph roundels is something that has to be added to the signs to make the 20mph speed limit enforceable.
Yes, there is a need to reduce speed through the village but does Strete need 35 roundels some of which are in a ‘one vehicle’ lane with a steep hill and sharp double bend.
Whilst they may be a statutory requirement they are not in keeping and not what we expect to see in the lanes of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
They are immense and ugly. Some are unnecessary. Fewer in the right places would be better.
