Welcome to the official website of Strete in Devon, England, which is managed by Strete Parish Council. Strete is about a fifteen minute drive from Dartmouth. It is to be found on the high coastal ground at the eastern end of Slapton Sands. It's a good place to stay if you like exploring the local beaches and is also convenient for Kingsbridge, Totnes and Salcombe. Strete is situated on the South West Coastal Footpath and, with a variety of accommodation in the village, it is an ideal location to take a break in your journey. Take time to relax and enjoy the beautiful AONB surroundings.
The future running of the public toilets in South Hams is being considered as part of the Council’s budget process to reduce costs.
The cost of providing all of the public toilets in the South Hams is £670,000 a year. This is not one of the statutory services which the Council has to provide.
SHDC are considering how they can continue to provide local services without cutting statutory front line services.
This can be achieved through communities taking responsibility for the provision of local public toilets and/or charging for public toilet use. Closure could also be considered.
Public toilets are one of a number of service areas which will be discussed by the Council during the budget period which runs into the early part of 2018. Council papers outlining the budget process will be in the public arena from later this week and SHDC want to ensure that communities are aware of any discussions that affect their locality.
