Welcome to the official website of Strete in Devon, England, which is managed by Strete Parish Council. Strete is about a fifteen minute drive from Dartmouth. It is to be found on the high coastal ground at the eastern end of Slapton Sands. It's a good place to stay if you like exploring the local beaches and is also convenient for Kingsbridge, Totnes and Salcombe. Strete is situated on the South West Coastal Footpath and, with a variety of accommodation in the village, it is an ideal location to take a break in your journey. Take time to relax and enjoy the beautiful AONB surroundings.
Alongside restoration of the A379 at Slapton Line, the South West Coast Path will be re-routed between the road and the fringe of the Higher Ley.
Work to achieve this includes managing scrub to provide an attractive path.
This is being carefully timed to protect the Cirl Buntings, a protected bird due to its listing under Schedule 1 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act, who are currently nesting in the nature reserve.
Vegetation management is planned to commence on 16th September.
The shingle on the beach can make for difficult walking, however, members of the public are asked to follow the diversion around the perimeter of the works area and along the beach.
It is anticipated that extra time will be needed to complete this section of the South West Coast Path until October when the works to the road should be complete. Every effort is being made to maintain access for the public to enjoy the natural beauty of the area.
Members of the public are asked to respect the diversion and the need for safety whilst the road works are taking place.
