Welcome to the official website of Strete in Devon, England, which is managed by Strete Parish Council. Strete is about a fifteen minute drive from Dartmouth. It is to be found on the high coastal ground at the eastern end of Slapton Sands. It's a good place to stay if you like exploring the local beaches and is also convenient for Kingsbridge, Totnes and Salcombe. Strete is situated on the South West Coastal Footpath and, with a variety of accommodation in the village, it is an ideal location to take a break in your journey. Take time to relax and enjoy the beautiful AONB surroundings.
The Submission Version of Strete Neighbourhood Plan is now available to view on the website.
This was submitted to SHDC on 10th January 2019 together with all the other regulatory documents to meet Regulation 15 requirements.
The plan has a number of Hyperlinks in the document that, by clicking on them, will take you to the various evidence needed to support the policies included in the plan.
SHDC have advised the plan will proceed to Regulation 16 during which they will look to appoint an Examiner.
The Examiner will ensure the plan complies with legislation and various regulations before issuing a formal acceptance report.
This will allow the plan to proceed to a referendum when registered members of the community will have the opportunity to vote on its acceptance.
Community support for the plan through the referendum will give it statutory credibility that SHDC should incorporate into their district policy for Strete.
Steering Group members have worked on this for three and a half years with the objective of meeting the aspirations of the community expressed in the early days of consultation.
Strete is a small community intent on protecting the environment appropriate to an AONB as well as the peace and tranquility that is evident every day/night. Whilst acknowledging the need for some new housing in the village it is vital that this is managed sensitively and that over development is avoided at all costs.
Your Steering Group believes the plan submitted meets with the aspirations of the majority in the parish and hope that you will support it.
