Welcome to the official website of Strete in Devon, England, which is managed by Strete Parish Council. Strete is about a fifteen minute drive from Dartmouth. It is to be found on the high coastal ground at the eastern end of Slapton Sands. It's a good place to stay if you like exploring the local beaches and is also convenient for Kingsbridge, Totnes and Salcombe. Strete is situated on the South West Coastal Footpath and, with a variety of accommodation in the village, it is an ideal location to take a break in your journey. Take time to relax and enjoy the beautiful AONB surroundings.
Following the Government’s instruction to ‘Stay at Home, Protect the NHS and Save Lives’ on 23 March 2020 the community in Strete responded by putting together an ‘Action Plan’ to make sure everyone in the parish could obtain all they needed to comply with the instruction.
The main focus of the Action Plan was through Monica & Andy Pound at the Village Shop who responded magnificently. At a Parish Council meeting on 19th March, Andy agreed to be the main contact for people needing support.
16 Volunteers from the community registered with the Village Shop to help out and their names and locality are listed there so that Monica & Andy can arrange for the nearest volunteer to provide the support requested.
Most prescription requirements are being delivered direct by the local surgeries.
Meanwhile the Village Shop has stepped up its supply of goods to meet the requirements of the community. This includes some unusual items – Rat Poison, Paint, White Spirit and a Strip Light. Most were made available and others were obtained a few days later.
As part of their support for those members of the community who are self-isolating, the team at the Village Shop offer home deliveries of food and other goods. Currently they have 39 customers receiving weekly deliveries with some having more than one delivery each week. Orders are placed the day before delivery the following afternoon. Friday and Saturday are their busiest days. The Village Shop has an excellent selection and supply of frozen fish and meats, yeast and strong flour, paracetamol, hand sanitiser and most recently they have been able to add face masks to the ever growing list of goods available.
Monica & Andy wish to express their sincere thanks for the support from Nick Shepherd and Anita McCoy in delivering newspapers to customers in the parish seven days a week. This daily routine has been extremely helpful for members of the community who are self-isolating.
And thanks for everything YOU are doing, Monica and Andy, in support of the community. It is very much appreciated.
Spirit in the community is high with most complying with the instruction to ‘Stay at Home, Protect the NHS and Save Lives’. As a result, the latest statistics for our area shows that no one has been lost to the Covid 19 virus. Well done to everyone. We are all very fortunate to be living where we are and by sticking to the guidelines we will contribute to the safety and well-being of our friends and neighbours.
