Welcome to the official website of Strete in Devon, England, which is managed by Strete Parish Council. Strete is about a fifteen minute drive from Dartmouth. It is to be found on the high coastal ground at the eastern end of Slapton Sands. It's a good place to stay if you like exploring the local beaches and is also convenient for Kingsbridge, Totnes and Salcombe. Strete is situated on the South West Coastal Footpath and, with a variety of accommodation in the village, it is an ideal location to take a break in your journey. Take time to relax and enjoy the beautiful AONB surroundings.
South Hams and West Devon have gone seven weeks without a death related to Covid 19. We need to remain ALERT to maintain this.
It is clear from the the number of Camper Vans parked overnight at both the Memorial and Strete Gate Car Parks together with the illegal parking on the highway at Strete Gate, that the traditional holiday season has started early.
If we are to continue with the 'all clear' in the area, residents and visitors must continue to observe the guidelines for safe distancing measures together with face masks when entering shops and pubs. Be respectful but avoid close contact with people you don't know.
Slapton Beach sits in the South West Area of Outstanding Beauty (AONB) and is also a Site of Specific Scientific Interest (SSSI). This prohibits camp fires, overnight camping and late night partying with loud music. Would everyone please respect these bye-laws.
We want everyone to enjoy our beautiful area now and in future years - please leave it as you found it. Additional rubbish bins have been provided - please use them. If they're full, please take your rubbish home. Public toilets are open - please use them not the nearest bush. It's important everyone uses the facilities provided to help protect each other from the spread of Covid 19.
