In March 2020, months before vaccines were available or fully developed, herd immunity was a phrase being used by some politicians and scientists. One policy option cited was to protect the most vulnerable and let others who were likely to suffer less severe symptoms catch the virus, build herd immunity and limit the need for lockdowns.
In contrast, vaccinations have hit a “new high” with all those aged over 30 eligible for jabs. The UK is on course to remove restrictions and is set to revel in a summer of sport and live performances after there were 15 positive Covid-19 cases recorded from events that involved more than 58,000 people.
Lockdown has changed the way many of us live our lives but, for many, it has demonstrated the need to take responsibility of our actions to protect others.
